For too many years our Greater Seattle community has largely held single-family home living as the ideal. Indeed, owning real estate in our region is often a catalyst to longer-term financial security and single-family homes do provide a different sense of ownership when there is more than interior walls and furnishings that is truly yours. The challenge for many is that land has gotten so scarce in our region, single-family home ownership has become extremely difficult and sometimes simply unattainable.

To exacerbate the problem, those that were lucky enough to purchase their “starter home” and then find those walls feeling smaller as their family grows or the life takes different turns, they are often finding the search for that next home nearly, if not entirely, impossible.  

The result of this real estate immobility has been to upgrade their “starter home” to become their “forever home.” While this has been lucrative for our residential remodeling business, this simple solution has permanently reduced the number of “starter homes” available — making that search for a first home substantially more difficult.  if something doesn’t shift, Seattle will be a very different place to live.
